Brussels, 26 August 2021

As of end of June 2021, Rosa Castro is the new Manager of the European Alliance for responsible R&D and Affordable Medicines, which is hosted by EPHA.

Rosa brings her experience working at the intersection of science policy and intellectual property law, as well as her passion for improving public health and access to medicines.

She previously worked for the Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM), where she oversaw FEAM’s core policy activities and led its participation in a large H2020 project on the impacts of COVID-19, and at a Brussels-based consultancy, where she managed public health projects for the European Institutions. Before moving to Brussels in 2017, Rosa was a postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) and at Duke University (USA), and a Lecturer on Intellectual Property Law and International Health Law.

As the new Coordinator of the Alliance, she will continue its work to improve access to medicines and to foster a research and development (R&D) system that is driven by public health needs and delivers accessible and affordable medicines for all. She will be responsible for coordinating joint actions, communicating with members and external partners, and further developing the Alliance during this demanding period for access to medicines in the EU and worldwide.

The Alliance Members have expressed their recognition and gratitude to Viviana Galli, who led the Alliance’s work as Coordinator for the past 5 years.
